TANZANIA FAMILY SAFARI ITINERARY:
Ages 6 and Up
Days 1-2 Depart U.S. / Arrive Arusha
Day 3 Mount Meru Village
Cultural Exchange, Pen Pals, Forest Walk
In a small village on the slopes of Mt. Meru we visit the local
school. Teachers and children share their daily activities,
introduce your kids to their Tanzanian pen pals and invite them
to join in a game. We also enjoy lunch in a magnificent setting
at the home of one of your Tanzanian guides. In the afternoon we
go on a forest walk to search for black and white Colobus
monkeys and other wildlife. B, L, D
Days 4-5 Arusha / Tarangire National Park - Wildlife Viewing,
Swimming
After breakfast at the hotel, we depart Arusha for scenic
Tarangire National Park, Tanzania's fourth largest. Here you'll
find a geologic landscape as diverse as the wildlife, with nine
distinct vegetation zones ranging from grassland to woodland,
and deep gully vegetation to scattered rocky hilltops. See the
distinctive ancient baobab trees and the dramatic vistas of the
Tarangire River valley. The river attracts an abundance of
wildlife, from elephants, lions, cheetahs and buffaloes to a
variety of colorful birds. B, L, D
Days 6-7 Ngorongoro Crater - Wildlife Viewing, Nature Hike
This morning we depart for the Ngorongoro Highlands. We
arrive at Gibbs Farm, a beautiful old coffee farm for a late
lunch. This afternoon we'll walk to a scenic waterfall just a
short way from the lodge. This afternoon we'll walk in the
private grounds of the farm bordering the Ngorongoro
Conservation Area looking for animal prints.
We then move on to Ngorongoro Crater, a collapsed volcano that
has been home to hundreds of species of non-migratory animals
for thousands of years. Descending 2,000 feet, we'll drive to
the crater floor to observe these animals as they hunt their
prey, eat, play and groom. In this 10 mile wide mini-universe,
we may see buffaloes, lions, rhinos, cheetahs, flamingoes,
jackals, hippos, ostriches, wildebeests and many more animals.
B, L, D
Days 8-9 Serengeti National Park - Maasai Cultural Exchange,
Wildlife Viewing
Depart Ngorongoro Crater this morning and head for the
Serengeti, stopping en route to be welcomed into a Maasai boma,
where we will gain a glimpse into traditional Maasai culture and
arts.
For the next day and a half we experience the incredible world
of the Serengeti - 6,000 square miles of endless plains, rock
outcroppings, brilliant blue skies and breathtaking sunsets.
We'll stay in walk-in canvas tents at our own private Classic
Camp. We'll enjoy great food, comfortable accommodations and the
stunning beauty of the heart of pristine African wilderness.
Each day, game drives open up new landscapes and opportunities
to see leopards, lions, cheetahs, zebras, gazelles, impalas,
antelopes, giraffes, warthogs, ostriches, more than 500 species
of birds and much more. You can also sign up for an optional
sunrise hot air balloon flight over the Serengeti Plains. B, L,
D
Days 10-11 Serengeti National Park / Return Home (Dec to Mar)
After a final game drive in the Serengeti, we fly back to
Arusha for a farewell lunch. While in Arusha we'll enjoy time to
shop or relax by the pool before our evening flight home. B, L
Days 10-15 Zanzibar: The Spice Island / Return Home (Jun to
Aug)
Our exploration of Zanzibar begins in Stone Town, Zanzibar's
historic city. Enjoy the delicate beauty of the ornate
architecture embellishing the doorways and balconies of every
street, and enjoy an intriguing tour of the cottage spice
industries. Our stay concludes with three nights at an
oceanfront resort overlooking the Indian Ocean, where we can
scuba dive, snorkel, swim or just relax on the white sand
beaches. Includes all Breakfasts, 2 Lunches, and 4 Dinners

Traveling in custom four-wheel drive Land Rover safari vehicles,
we navigate back roads and dusty tracks to encounter a new
surprise every day. You'll discover vast, ruggedly beautiful
landscapes, stretching from the volcanic cone of Mt. Meru to the
Great Rift Valley, from the dramatic, tree-strewn landscape of
Tarangire to the endless plains of the Serengeti. You'll meet
our long-time friends - villagers, school children, artisans,
the Maasai and your Tanzanian guides - who share their thoughts,
traditions, language and everyday lives with us.
You never know what we might see: a lion stalking a herd of
zebras; a hundred Thomson gazelles springing across a dirt road;
a tiny dik-dik antelope hidden in the tall grass; elephants
leading their babies to a watering hole; hippos wallowing in a
pool; or a family of cheetahs patiently hunting its prey.
Our family goes back to Tanzania every year to experience the
land anew. And each time we feel - as you will - the thrill of
untamed nature and the warmth of some of the kindest, most
hospitable people in the world.
