        MOROCCO: HIGH ATLAS ADVENTURE
MOROCCO - HIGH ATLAS ADVENTURE FOR TEENS ITINERARY:

Days 1-2 Depart U.S. / Arrive Marrakech Hotel
Gearing Up

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy a welcome dinner and orientation before getting a good night's sleep. D

Days 3-6 Oukaimeden
The Warm Up & The Trek
We head off for the High Atlas Mountains by van and settle into a comfortable hotel in the town of Oukaimeden, Morocco's only ski resort. We'll discover Neolithic etchings in the rocky hills and test our legs on the long and meandering trail to the Tizi Atar for our first breathtaking views of our days to come.

Next we pack up the mules and head out on the trail! Over two days we'll trek a total of 8-9 hours along winding dirt roads and switchback mule trails, past adobe villages and terraced farmland. Mules carry our gear, and a camp crew handles our every need. The rocky trail can be challenging, sometimes steep or narrow, slippery or uneven, but don't forget to stop and look around! Gazing out at endless views of a landscape dotted only by the occasional goat or villager is a magical experience. We'll camp one night alongside a refreshing stream, perfect for a cooling dip. B, L, D

Days 7-8 Kasbah
Winding Down
From our comfortable home base in the kasbah perched high above the village of Imlil we have two more opportunities for lighter, half day treks (3-4 hours each) along with time for relaxing in the fresh mountain air. We'll share a worn path in the Aremd Valley with Moroccans making their pilgrimage to the tomb of Sidi Cahmarouch set against the backdrop of Mt. Toubkal, North Africa's highest mountain. On day 8 we depart this area on foot following a trail through villages and orchards, passing grazing herds of goats and on to the valley of Ourigane, where we begin the leisurely part of our adventure. B, L, D

Days 9-13 Ourigane/Marrakech
Basking in Our Success
Next we sleep in luxurious hotels outfitted with all the amenities for pampering! We'll take a peaceful walk through the village of Ourigane, where we visit with a local family for mint tea and freshly baked bread dipped in local honey.

We'll drive on to the fishing port of Essaouira where the shops, cafes and a huge expanse of beach offers many options for unscheduled adventures. Our final two days are in the bustling world of Marrakech, where we explore the narrow winding souks in the old city and see snake charmers work their magic on pythons! B, L, D

Day 14 Depart Marrakech / Arrive U.S.

Morocco is a magical kingdom of exotic sights, smells, sounds and cultures. Our trip takes us from Marrakesh into the High Atlas Mountains.

The mountains are home to the Berbers, the country's original inhabitants, a fiercely independent people renowned for their gentleness and hospitality and whose simple pastoral and agrarian way of life has changed little in the past few hundred years.

We'll trek and camp in the highlands and experience the fascinating culture of the Berber people through food, song and dance.

Descending from the mountains, we continue our adventure in the exotic cities of Essaouria and Marrakesh. Essaouria is a gorgeous coastal town nestled amidst old Berber, French and Portuguese military fortifications. We'll enjoy exploring narrow winding streets as we pass through a sea of whitewashed houses adorned with blue doors and shutters.
