   VOLCANOES, CLOUD FORESTS & BEACHES
COSTA RICA - VOLCANOES, CLOUD FORESTS & BEACHES ITINERARY:

Ages 6 and Up

Day 1 Depart U.S. / Arrive San Jose

Day 2 Poas Volcano Area - San Jose
One of two active volcanoes in Costa Rica's Central Mountain Range, Poas is accessible by paved road, almost all the way to the crater's edge, one of the widest in the world. From the visitor's center, walk a half mile to the lookout point for a close-up look at the power of a volcano.

At the base of Poas Volcano enjoy the canopy tour at Las Colinas. Secured to steel zipline cables with the help of our experienced guides, glide from platform to platform for a unique opportunity to see the forest from a bird's eye view. B, L, D

Day 3 Monteverde Region - Mercedes Coffee Plantation, Cultural Exchange
En route to the Monteverde area, stop at Mercedes de Atenas and visit an organic coffee plantation. Meet our pen pals and have fun and games with the locals. After a BBQ lunch, continue to Monteverde, where our home for the next two days is an eco-lodge set on 35 acres of land located just outside of the reserve, providing accommodations in harmony with the surrounding beauty.

This afternoon, visit Frog Pond, observe over 20 different species of frogs and other amphibians, including the colorful Poison Arrow Dart Frog and the famous Red Eyed Tree Frog. B, L, D

Day 4 Monteverde Region - Cloud Forest Reserve, Sky Walk Suspension Bridges
Visit Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, one of the most outstanding wildlife sanctuaries in Central America. In the Nature Center learn about the complexities and nuances of the butterfly lifecycle. Lunch will be at a local pizza place.

After lunch, head to the Sky Walk Suspension Bridge. Skywalk is a series of suspension bridges spanning forested valleys in the cloud forest. Skywalk gives visitors a bird's-eye view of this spectacular habitat while trails along the forest floor to each bridge complete the panorama. B, L, D

Day 5 Guanacaste Beaches - Safari Float Tenorio River
En route from Monteverde to Guanacaste beaches enjoy a Safari Float on an inflatable raft on the Tenorio River.

The gentle river is bordered by tropical dry forest, home to exotic water birds including Toucans, Parrots, Laughing Falcons and Kingfishers. Animal sightings may include howler and white faced monkeys, 3 species of iguana, river otters, and more. Enjoy a typical Guanacaste lunch at Historic La Pacifica. This successful model of sustainable development is a working ranch with history dating back to the early 1900s. B, L, D

Day 6 Guanacaste Beaches - Rain Forest Exploration, Wildlife Viewing
From neighboring Sugar Beach enjoy an Outriggers ocean canoe tour paddle to quiet Pacific coves for snorkeling, tide pooling and beachcombing. These beaches are some of the best places for snorkeling in Guanacaste, with a wide variety of coral reef and marine life.

Lunch will be a picnic on the beach before heading back to the hotel. The afternoon is free to enjoy the beach or hotel pool. Dinner will be at a local seaside restaurant. B, L, D

Day 7 Guanacaste Beaches - Free Day, Farewell Dinner
Today is a free day to enjoy the beach or take a day trip to Tamarindo for optional surf lessons. Tonight meet at the hotel for a special farewell dinner and final evening. B, D
