ITINERARY:
Day 1 – Arrive Philadelphia
Tour begins: 5:00 PM at Hyatt Regency Philadelphia at Penn’s
Landing (airport transfers are not included). Welcome to
Philadelphia, your first stop on America's historic “road to
independence.” You may want to make plans to arrive early in the
day to see the Liberty Bell and other landmark sights! Join us
for a welcome dinner tonight. Meals D
Day 2 – From historic city landmarks to country treats
Your journey begins this morning with a tour of city sights;
stop at Independence Hall in Independence National Historical
Park, where delegates from the thirteen original colonies signed
the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Step back in
time more than one hundred years as you get a glimpse of daily
life in Lancaster County, the heart of scenic Pennsylvania Dutch
country. View Amish farms, where horse and plow are used instead
of the tractor and where local residents live without modern-day
conveniences. Get set for a special treat on an overnight in
Hershey, Pennsylvania, the sweetest place in America! Note:
Hershey Park is open for summer departures only; April and
December departures (which total 7 days / 6 nights) will not
visit Hershey, continuing on to Gettysburg instead. Meals BL
Day 3 – Explore Hershey Park & historic Gettysburg
Have fun learning the sweet secrets of chocolate-making –
and how the Hershey Kiss got its name – this morning as you
travel like a virtual cocoa bean through a candy factory in
Hershey’s Chocolate World (summer departures only). Drive to
Gettysburg National Military Park; the 20,000-acre battlefield
is one of the most famous in the world and is the site of
President Abraham Lincoln’s immortal Gettysburg Address.
Experience poignant reminders of the Civil War as you tour the
battlefields with a guide who shares insights about its most
important conflicts – see where 70,000 men of the Confederate
Army faced 93,000 Union soldiers under the command of General
George Meade for three days in July of 1863, marking a major
turning point of the war that divided friends and brothers.

Day 4 – The history of the U.S. Marine Corps
Cross the infamous Mason-Dixon Line, best known as the
historic divider between north and south, freedom and slavery as
your journey through American history continues. A visit to the
National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Virginia, lets
you follow in the footsteps of the U.S. Marines through
interactive exhibits that chronicle the history and
accomplishments of these brave American patriots. Your
destination for the next two nights is Colonial Williamsburg,
where 18th-century America comes alive right before your eyes.
Sample an authentic taste of typical 18th-century fare at a
colonial tavern tonight. Meals BD
Day 5 – Life in Colonial Williamsburg
Experience life on the eve of the American Revolution in
Colonial Williamsburg; go inside colonial houses and shops, and
meet families as they go about their daily chores without
electricity, hot running water, telephones, computers or
television! Take an intriguing walk tonight as you listen to
legends about early America. Meals B
Day 6 – George Washington’s house at Mount Vernon
Travel to historic Mount Vernon today for a guided tour of
George Washington’s beloved plantation overlooking the Potomac
River; explore his house and learn what life was like for the
“Father of Our Country.” This afternoon, venture into the
nation’s capital, stopping at the International Spy Museum to
learn about the role spies have played in world events
throughout history. Meals BLD
Day 7 – The national monuments of Washington, DC
Discover famous national landmarks today on a guided tour
that takes you to the Jefferson Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial,
and the United States Capitol Building, ending with a visit to
the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. See objects
from real events that helped shape America, including the
original Star Spangled Banner and President Lincoln’s trademark
top hat. This afternoon, explore the city on your own, perhaps
visiting the Air and Space Museum, or the National Mall. Join us
for a farewell dinner. Meals BD
Day 8 – Journey home
Tour ends: Washington, DC. Fly home anytime. Transfers to
the airport are not included. Allow a minimum of two hours for
flight check-in. Meals B
