Depart independently on commercial flights to China. Cross
the International Date Line and arrive in Xi'an the next day.

China's Shaolin Culture & Qin Terracotta Figures
In Xi'an, visit the Famen Temple for its 13-tiered pagoda,
the long-hidden treasures of the Tang Dynasty, and one of very
few surviving relics of the Lord Buddha. We then meet with
Shaolin monks and learn about the art of Qi Gong, and visit the
life-sized funerary army of Emperor Qin's Tomb. Sofitel on

Monday, September 22
Cave Monasteries of Luoyang
We board our private jet and fly to Luoyang, for a day's
exploration of this Silk Road outpost, before continuing on to
Japan. See the exquisite jade works of the Luoyang Museum and
then head to the Longment Grottoes. For more than 1,500 years
this extensive network of cave monasteries has been an important
site of pilgrimage.

Japan's Zen Gardens & Temples & Samurai Culture
Stroll Kyoto's historic tree-lined streets by the Kamo
River. Visit the Sanjusangendo Temple and the Kamigamo Shrine,
and explore the palaces and gardens of Nijo Castle. We also go
to Nara for the glorious Todai-ji Temple, the world's largest
wooden building, guarded by two exquisite Nio wooden figures and

Mongolia's Nomadic Culture & Gandan Monastery
Explore the legendary land of Genghis Khan. Venture into the
countryside to meet with a nomadic family in a traditional ger
home. Observe monks chanting at the Gandan Monastery, then visit
the Museum of Natural History, featuring a dinosaur skeleton

Wonders of the Gobi Desert
Today we fly deep into Mongolia’s Gobi Desert for a
comfortable ger-style camp experience in an unforgettable
setting. Nearby, at the Flaming Cliffs, go dinosaur fossil
hunting with an expert guide. Then marvel at the ancient
petroglyphs by our camp and ride Bactrian camels into the sand

Flightseeing the Himalaya & the Colorful City of Kathmandu,
Nepal
Our jet takes us over the breathtaking spires of the Himalaya
Mountains to Kathmandu, Nepal’s colorful capital city -— at once
ancient and modern, Buddhist and Hindu, natural and urban. While

Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan
Visit the great Paro Dzong, and meet with the revered Datong
Tulku Rinpoche. At the National Museum, admire the superb
collections of textiles, ancient weapons, and classical thangka
paintings. We stay in the elegant and incomparable Amankora Paro,

India's Sacred Buddhist Sites & Ganges River Culture
Explore the epicenter of Buddhism at Bodh Gaya, where Lord
Buddha attained enlightenment. Visit the Mahabodhi Temple and
the sacred Bodhi Tree, then fly to Varanasi, located on the
Ganges River. Nearby, at the temple complex of Sarnath, stroll
the tranquil deer sanctuary and behold the great Dhamekha Stupa,
where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon. Then, on our way
to Vietnam, we make a brief stop at the Great Stupa of Sanchi.

Vietnam's China Beach, Pagodas & Imperial Treasures
In Danang, visit the Cham Museum, devoted to the heritage of the
Kingdom of Champa. Then take a marvelously scenic drive through

The Royal City of Luang Prabang in Laos
Explore the gorgeous city of Luang Prabang. Visit the Wat Xieng
Thong monastery, and the Royal Palace. Then shop the central

Cambodia's Angkor Wat & Other Ancient Monuments
We reboard our jet and fly to Cambodia, to explore Angkor Wat.

Before the main jet program, go on a 5-day optional tour to
