INTRODUCTION
PeruRail is widely recognized as
not only one of the highest rail routes
on Earth, but the world's most scenic
railway service.
PeruRail links most of the tourist
highlights of the Andes in Peru and is
undoubtedly the most spectacular way to
discover the ancient land of the Incas,
taking you through scenery of
outstanding beauty and to places almost
inaccessible by any other means.
PeruRail offers a choice of main routes
- between either historic Cuzco or the
Sacred Valley and the legendary Machu
Picchu and between Cuzco and Lake
Titicaca. PeruRail's luxury train
service between Cusco and Machu Picchu,
is named after the American explorer -
Hiram Bingham who discovered the
stunning ruins of the ancient citadel.
The train leaves from Cusco in the
morning taking a spectacular journey
through a changing landscape while
guests enjoy brunch and mimosas on
board.
After the steep climb out of Cusco,
the train descends into the Sacred
Valley, passing lush fields and colorful
villages in the foothills of the Andes.
From there, the journey is highlighted
by wonderful vistas of the mountains and
the beautiful Urubamba River which runs
through the Sacred Valley. On arrival in
the town of Aguas Calientes at the foot
of Machu Picchu, guests are taken by bus
to Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge for
lunch, which overlooks the ancient
citadel. A private guided tour of the
citadel follows before the return
transfer to the station in the early
evening. A sumptuous dinner is served on
the train during the 4 hour journey back
to Cusco. For many visitors, the journey
to Machu Picchu is a once-in-a-lifetime
experience. Taking the Hiram Bingham
means passengers can focus their
attention and energy on what matters
most, knowing that every detail of this
trip has been taken care of by the
experts at PeruRail.

THE TRAINS
Hiram Bingham
This luxury train service runs between Cuzco and Machu
Picchu. The train departs from Poroy Station (20 mins
drive from the centre of Cuzco) at 9am, giving a more
leisurely start to the day than other PeruRail
departures. Its distinctive blue and gold livery and
elegant interior upholstery in warm, inviting tones,
consists of 4 cars - 2 dining cars, a bar car and a
kitchen car. The price of the journey includes onboard
meals with wine, entertainment, guides, bus tranfers,
entrance to the Ruins and afternoon tea at Machu Picchu
Sanctuary Lodge. At around noon, on July 23, 1911, an
explorer named Hiram Bingham climbed up a steep hill and
stumbled onto Machu Picchu, uncovering what had been up
until that moment, the Incas' best kept secret. The
World was stunned by his discovery. PeruRail's luxury
train service between Cuzco and Machu Picchu, is named
after the American explorer who discovered the stunning
ruins of the ancient citadel.
Vistadome
These spectacular carriages have beautiful panoramic
windows offering unsurpassed scenic views and
photographic opportunities. With glass surrounding them
on all sides, passengers feel as if they are part of
Peru's remarkable landscape.
Vistadome is the quickest way to visit Machu Picchu and
apart from the carriages of the Hiram Bingham, the most
comfortable. Snacks and hot and cold refreshments are
included on the journey. The Vistadome runs between
Cuzco-Machu Picchu and Sacred Valley-Machu Picchu.
Passengers can also board and alight in Poroy (the
closest stop to Cuzco), avoiding the switchback in and
out of Cuzco and saving approximately half an hour off
the the total journey time.
Backpacker
The Backpacker carriages are created for our adventure
passengers or for those seeking comfort and security,
without all the frills. These carriages offer travellers
a true Peruvian experience. Seats are upholstered with
indigenous fabrics, giving a touch of local flavour.
Snacks are served on this service and additional storage
space is available for backpacks. Backpacker runs
between Cuzco-Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley-Machu Picchu
and Cuzco-Lake Titicaca.
First Class on the Andean Explorer
The Andean Explorer is exquisitely decorated in the fine
manner of the great Pullman trains of the 1920’s and
boasts a full fleet of refurbished coaches including
dining cars and an open-air observation bar car, which
is unique in South America. On the journey passengers
are served a three course lunch in the dining car
followed by coffee served in the observation-bar car.

Titicaca. This service, full of romance and style,

► LIFE ON
BOARD THE HIRAM BINGHAM
The distinctive blue and gold carriages of the Hiram
Bingham are warm and inviting with elegant interior
upholstery. The train, consisting of 2 dining cars, a
bar car and a kitchen car, can carry up to 84
passengers. The general style of the carriages is in
line with those on PeruRail's 'Andean Explorer' train,
which operates between Cuzco and Lake Titicaca in
Southern Peru, and reflect the luxury of the 1920s
Pullman era.
The Hiram Bingham departs Cuzco at 9am which gives a
more leisurely start to the day than the traditional 6am
departures of other services. Brunch is served on board
the train whilst travellers enjoy the spectacular
scenery unfolding before them from the large windows.
The arrival at Machu Picchu at 12.30pm gives passengers
the advantage of entering the Sanctuary at an hour when
the majority of the visitors are already beginning to
leave for their journey back to Cuzco. This not only
gives the opportunity to experience the ancient citadel
at Machu Picchu in relative solitude, but also with a
longer period of time there, and passengers only return
to the train as the sun goes down.
Once back on board for a 6.30pm departure, pre-dinner
cocktails are served in the bar accompanied by live
entertainment before passengers enjoy a 4-course, à la
carte dinner, in the dining cars. The train pulls into
Poroy station in Cuzco at 10pm.
