EGYPT FAMILY ADVENTURE  ITINERARY:

Days 1 and 2 — New York/London/Cairo, Egypt
Depart for Cairo via London, arriving in the evening of the next day.

Day 3 — Cairo
Delve into a trove of ancient artifacts at the Egyptian Museum. See the treasures of the tomb of Tutankhamun, and face a lineup of historic pharaohs in the Royal Mummies Room. Enjoy lunch at sail on a traditional felucca on the Nile River. Explore the minarets and courtyards of Islamic Cairo's mosques. Tonight, gather for a festive welcome dinner. (B, L, D)

Day 4 — Cairo
Encounter the great Pyramids and the Sphinx at Gîza. Ride a camel and see the funerary boat of King Cheops at the Solar Boat Museum. After lunch, visit a crafts workshop and try your hand at pottery, engraving, or woodworking. (B, L, D)

Day 5 — Cairo/Abu Simbel/Aswân/Luxor
Fly to Abu Simbel to view the towering Temple of Ramses II and the Temple of Hathor, dedicated to Ramses II's wife, Nefertari. Continue by air to Aswân and learn about the construction of the Aswân High Dam. Take a boat ride to the Temple of Philae before visiting a museum dedicated to the Nubian culture. After dinner, fly to Luxor and settle into your hotel.  Sonesta St. George Hotel (B, L, D)

Day 6 — Luxor
Discover the sites of the west bank of the Nile today. Kids may take a donkey ride before descending into the tombs at the Valley of the Kings. Later, stop at the Luxor Museum to see its fabulous collection of pottery, jewelry, furniture, and statuary. (B)

Day 7 — Luxor
Explore the Temple of Luxor, built during the reigns of three pharaohs. Then stroll among the colossal columns of the awe-inspiring Temple of Karnak. Later, ancient Egypt comes alive at an enthralling sound-and-light performance. After dinner, meet the director of Luxor antiquities. (B, D)

Day 8 — Luxor/Cairo
Return to Cairo and wander through the ruins of the Fortress of Babylon, the city's oldest original structure. Later, venture into the lively bazaar of Khan El Khalili. Experience local hospitality at a farewell dinner in a private home.

Day 9 — Cairo/New York
Transfer to the airport for your return flight. (B)

Prices are per person, double occupancy.  Please note: For December 26, 2009 departure, add $300 per person to the 2009 expedition cost.  For single room, add $700 in 2008 and $775 in 2009.

All flights within Egypt are included in the expedition cost.  International airfare is not included.  Round-trip economy airfare between New York and Cairo is $1,295 (subject to change).

*Applies to child sharing a room with one adult.  If child is sharing a room with two adults, deduct $655 from the child price.
 

          NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC EXPERT
Egyptologist Sonia El Masri was born in Alexandria and currently resides in Cairo. She earned a diploma of Egyptology from the University of London and has presented numerous lectures to audiences in the United States on Egypt, its antiquities, and its fascinating history. For the past 25 years, Sonia has enjoyed introducing Americans of all ages to the wonders of her native country. She is passionate about each era of Egyptian history and looks forward to sharing her insights on the places we visit with adults and children alike.

Sonia will lead the December 19, 2008 departure.
