Uganda is world famous as the place to see chimps, but many travelers have forgotten what a treasure the country still is as an overall safari destination. We’ll visit the chimps in Kibale forest, but the real goal of this journey is the remote big-game viewing and birding that most travelers never get to experience. We’ll fly into Kidepo, Uganda’s most remote national park, a sprawling savannah where jagged volcanic peaks delineate the intersection of two broad valleys. Kidepo is home to 86 large mammal species, including black-backed jackals, aardwolves, and cheetah. Queen Elizabeth National Park is another destination on our list, a fertile equatorial landscape of lakes and rivers that is home to the world’s largest concentration of hippos. The Nile River cuts Murchison Falls National Park in two, and we’ll board a boat just beneath the famous falls for a day of bird-watching and river exploration. Uganda is the forgotten jewel of safari travel and this trip will take you to all of the hidden highlights!

Trip Highlights:

  • Discover Uganda, dubbed by Winston Churchill as the “Pearl of Africa” for its beauty, wildlife, diversity, and friendly people
  • Big game viewing in Queen Elizabeth National Park (and a birder’s delight—606 species!)
  • Explore Kidepo Valley National Park, one of Uganda’s most remote—and spectacular—parks, with its broad mountain and savanna landscapes and endemic wildlife
