           VERMONT WOMEN'S ADVENTURE
VERMONT WOMEN'S ADVENTURE ITINERARY:

DAY 1 - Arrival in Burlington; Transfer to Goshen; 2-3 miles, easy
The tour meets at the Burlington International Airport where we immediately depart for a scenic one and a half hour drive to our home for the next two nights. The Blueberry Hill Inn is located on 120 private acres near Moosalamoo, a section of the Green Mountain National Forest in central Vermont. This 1813 original farmhouse, adorned with antiques and handmade quilts, exudes warmth and rustic charm throughout.

Late afternoon we embark on a short walk along trails that surround the inn. We enjoy dinner this evening at the inn’s comfortable dining room. After dinner we have time to relax in the inn’s charming and peaceful environment.
Blueberry Hill Inn, Goshen

DAY 2 - Robert Frost Trail; 1 mile, easy; Silver Lake Trails; 3-5 miles, easy to moderate
Early risers may take advantage of a pre-breakfast walk on the Robert Frost Trail. This one-mile loop trail through the woods near our inn commemorates the poetry of Robert Frost, who spent 23 summers in this area. After enjoying a full country breakfast, we set off to explore the trails around nearby Silver Lake. Wooded paths, brilliant colors, and lake views dot the landscape as we walk through this pristine region.

This afternoon we have time to relax on the porch at our inn, or sooth our muscles in the wood-fired sauna. Late afternoon we depart for Brandon, where we will enjoy a private, hands-on cooking class, followed by dinner at a local French-inspired restaurant.  Blueberry Hill Inn, Goshen

DAY 3 Pre-breakfast yoga class; Little River State Park; 2-3 miles, easy to moderate; Transfer to Stowe; Weisener Woods; 1-2 miles, easy
Early risers may take advantage of a yoga class offered by our guide. After breakfast, we leave Goshen and head north towards Stowe. The transfer is approximately 1 1/2 hours.

Little River State Park is our first destination; this region was once a settlement, home to 50 pioneer families in the late 1700s. Our wooded path will take us past remnants of old town buildings, a sawmill, and cemetaries; all are evidence of a once-thriving community. Following a picnic lunch we continue on to Stowe, where wooded trails welcome us, and spectacular views abound.

Our home for the next few evenings is an inn situated amidst the Green Mountains, with spectacular views of Mount Mansfield and the Stowe valley. Its Swiss-Austrian alpine architecture, New England charm, and excellent cuisine provide a warm welcome at the end of an active day.  Stowehof Inn & Resort, Stowe

DAY 4 - Mt. Mansfield; 3-4 miles, moderate to challenging; Afternoon visit with a local potter
After breakfast, we drive to Smuggler’s Notch — the deep, boulder-laden passageway between Mt. Mansfield and Sterling Peak. In the early 1800s Smuggler’s Notch was used as a route for smuggling goods in and out of Canada.

After ascending Mt. Mansfield by van, we begin our walk at the visitors’ center located near the top of the mountain. On a clear day, this ridgeline walk provides breathtaking views of Lake Champlain and several mountain ranges including the Adirondacks, the White Mountains, the Green Mountains, and Mount Royal in Canada. At 4,393 feet, Mt. Mansfield is the state’s highest summit and supports the largest of three alpine ecosystems in Vermont. Its alpine vegetation survives high winds, extreme temperatures, and much precipitation. Mt. Mansfield also supports numerous forest ecosystems that will be noticeable as we traverse the ridge.

Lunch is on your own today at one of Stowe’s many fine restaurants or cafes. Later this afternoon we visit with a local potter, taking time to learn about the timeless technique of creating pottery by hand. Tonight we dine in town at one of Stowe’s favorite restaurants. Stowehof Inn & Resort, Stowe

DAY 5  - Pre-breakfast yoga class; Bull Moose Pasture; 4 miles, moderate
Those who wish may join a pre-breakfast yoga class led by our guide. Our morning walk takes us to beautiful Bull Moose Pasture. We pass working farms, sugar maple groves, and meadows dotted with Vermont’s Holstein cows. Autumn features spectacular fall foliage as leaves of maple, birch, and poplar trees change to dazzling shades of red, orange, and yellow.

This afternoon we take time to visit with George Woodard, a third generation Vermont organic dairy farmer and storyteller. From George we gain a better understanding of Vermont’s history of dairy farming and maple sugaring as we picnic in his meadows overlooking Camel’s Hump, Vermont’s third highest peak.

If time allows, we may also stroll along one of Vermont’s signature country roads — with panoramic views of the Green Mountains in the distance.

This evening we enjoy a final dinner together at our inn. Stowehof Inn & Resort, Stowe

DAY 6 - Trapp Family Lodge; 4-6 miles, moderate. Departure
This morning we visit the grounds of the Trapp Family Lodge. The von Trapps, made famous by The Sound of Music, established the first cross-country ski area in the United States over fifty years ago. These ski trails offer several walking options on grassy paths with rolling hills. We begin by following an old sugaring road through the woods, which occasionally opens up to dramatic views of the surrounding mountains. We continue through peaceful, fragrant pine forests, and open meadows on a loop trail back to our starting point.

Following our final lunch as a group, we transfer to the Burlington International Airport in time for early evening flights.

Itinerary Changes: Please bear in mind that this is a typical itinerary, and the actual walks and sites may vary due to season, special events or weather. We reserve the right to alter the itinerary since tour arrangements are made up to a year in advance, and unforeseen circumstances that mandate change may arise. The high desert landscape of Arizona is a natural masterpiece to discover on foot—a brilliant palette of natural color and geological artistry to inspire our walking adventure. Beneath an expanse of clear-blue sky, we follow routes winding through red sandstone monoliths, skirting canyon rims, and venturing into tranquil Ponderosa Pine forest. Some of the most breathtaking natural wonders are ours to discover up close —the Grand Canyon, of course, which is the beginning of our journey. Spectacular views surround us everywhere we wander—from sunrise to sunset over the canyon. Fascinating desert wildlife discoveries await along the trail. We may see majestic raptors on the wing as we wander among the unique flora, including the region’s hallmark cactus. Encounters with Native American history and culture deepen our admiration of this land in all its multifaceted glory. From the Grand Canyon region, we travel to nearby Sedona, a lively community with charming shops, art and crafts galleries, and restaurants—and ringed by mesmerizing scenery. Our accommodations in Arizona enhance our immersion, finding us ideally situated in unspoiled natural settings. Our Grand Canyon park lodges are within walking distance of the South Rim. In Sedona, we relax at a secluded creekside resort. Dining experiences feature the freshest cuisine—exquisite gourmet dishes with Southwest accents. On the trail and off, every moment of our Arizona adventure is rich in the unique sensations of this fascinating destination.
