NEW ZEALAND GRAND JOURNEY ITINERARY
Trip Length: 11 days/10 nights
Start/Finish: Auckland/Queenstown
Pristine doesn’t begin to describe it. In the Marlborough
Sounds, we stay in a resort that is only accessible by boat –
which makes for not just great views and perfect quiet, but easy
access to the subtropical rain forest where we walk with our
nature guide. In Arthur’s Pass, it’s a wholly different kind of
quiet – sheep farms and sub-alpine flora nestled among the
Southern Alps. In Fiordland World Heritage Park, 1.2 million
hectares of protected rain forest are home to waterfalls,
dolphins, penguins and seals – and more jaw-dropping scenery
than seems possible.
On this trip, we’ve combined four distinct regions to ensure you
discover the best of New Zealand’s great beauty on foot. But for
us, a great holiday is always about balance - which means that
we also take time to taste the wines, learn about the
environment, shear a sheep, and enjoy the luxury of a
first-class hotel at the end of the day. Trip Highlights:
- Take a scenic flight across Cook Straight to the South
Island
- Hike the legendary Queen Charlotte and Milford tracks
with a local naturalist
- Boat along towering cliffs in search of the world’s
rarest penguin in Fiordland
- Enjoy world-class wines, great seafood and lamb
- Hike, jet boat or bungee jump in high adrenaline
Queenstown

Accommodations:
Treetops Lodge & Estate, Rotorua
Small Luxury Hotels of the World
A winner worldwide, the Treetops Lodge & Estate was recently
named Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Grand Award Winner and the year’s
Decadent Find by Elite Traveller Magazine. You’ll understand why
immediately. Extremely private and intimate, Treetops is nestled
amidst 1,000 hectares of pristine wilderness near Lake Rotorua.
The lodge features 12 elegant and unique villas and suites, each
boasting an incredible valley or lake view.
Wharekauhau Country Estate, Featherston
Small Luxury Hotels of the World
There’s not much room left on the Wharekauhau’s mantel for
another distinguished “Best Of” award. (Andrew Harper & Wine
Spectator are two of its admirers.) Maori for “place of
knowledge” and pronounced “Faray-Ko-Ho,” Wharekauhau is set on a
2,000 hectare, 150-year-old working sheep farm. In fact, its
logo, a rowboat oarlock, refers to the farm’s original,
makeshift branding iron, used to label boxes of wool before they
were rowed out to waiting ships. This gorgeously decorated
Edwardian mansion and its surrounding private cottages all
overlook spectacular Palliser Bay.
Huntley House, Christchurch
Originally built in 1876, this colonial home has been
beautifully remodelled as a boutique hotel in the suburbs of
Christchurch. The stunning gardens, period dining room and
outdoor pool make for an exquisite addition to our journey.
Matakauri Lodge, Queenstown
Situated on a four-hectare estate just 10 minutes from
Queenstown, the Matakauri Lodge offers absolute comfort and
stunning panoramic views of Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding
mountains and countryside. Each of the four villas and three
suites has a spacious, comfortable lounge, king-size bed,
two-person bath and its own private garden terrace.
