GULF ISLANDS BIKING ITINERARY
Trip Length: 7 days/6 nights
Start/Finish: Vancouver/Vancouver
In British Columbia’s Gulf Islands, living green means more than
driving a hybrid car or separating your organics. Out here,
people have been carrying on a running conversation with the
environment that predates the written word. Millennia before the
first European settlers arrived, the Coast Salish First Nation
lived off of this beautiful, bountiful land, building
underground kekuli huts, fishing its salmon-stocked rivers and
carving everything from tools to canoes to ceremonial totems
from its enormous red cedars. No wonder they refer to these
boreal giants as “the trees of life.”
On this trip, we’ll take you deep into the heart of Nature
itself, biking through stunning mountain passes and ancient
old-growth forests bathed in a luminous, almost mystical glow.
Gorgeous biking trails, exquisite seafood and close encounters
of the whale kind, all in Canada’s most temperate climate. It’s
a lot like the Mediterranean, only with a Canadian accent. Trip Highlights:
- Fly from Vancouver to Saturna Island – a naturalist
paradise – aboard a private seaplane
- Get up-close and personal with sea life on a
whale-watching expedition
- Stay at three of the region’s premier hotel properties:
the Galiano Inn & Spa, Brentwood Bay Lodge and the
award-winning Sooke Harbour House
- Ride designated bike paths through Potholes Provincial
Park and along the Trans-Canada Trail
- Sample the region’s wonderful wines in a private tasting
at the Vignetti Zanatta vineyard
- Breathe in fresh, clean air by the lungful in the
natural splendour of towering forests
