TUSCANY BIKING ITINERARY
Trip Length: 7 days/6 nights
Start/Finish: Florence/Florence
As much as we appreciate the luxury of Tuscany’s fine hotels
(and we stay in the
best), it’s the region’s rustic charms that capture our
imagination – along with the local friends who help us enjoy
them. While guests at the 15thC CasaBianca villa hotel, our
hosts Alba & Luigi give us a pizza-making demonstration and
invite us to taste their estate-made wine and olive oil. One day
for lunch, we picnic with a local family. Another time, we stop
at a farm to taste authentic pecorino, prosciutto and salami. It
really is all about who you know. In our minds, VIPs are people
like our friend Signor Bindi, who invites us into his oil mill
to taste fresh-from-the-press olive oil. Rustic? Yes.
Unforgettable? You bet. Trip Highlights:
- Ride through the Val di Chiana to the famed Tre Rose
wine estate
- Take a walking tour of Cortona with a local artist
- Bike through olive groves, gorgeous farmland and past
hillside towns to Montepulciano
- Taste the local wines with an award-winning oenologist
- Enjoy a guided walk through Siena with an art historian
- Learn how to make the perfect pizza from a pizzaiolo

Accommodations:
Relais Villa Petrischio, Farneta
A beautiful villa built in the 1800s, the Relais Villa
Petrischio is set in the midst of a cypress and pine tree
forest. It offers stunning views over the entire Val di Chiana
and expansive, private grounds which you may choose to
explore--when you’re not relaxing in the pool or your finely
decorated room.
Villa Cicolina, Montepulciano
Once the home of a noble family, the Villa Cicolina embodies
Tuscany with its rustic charms and fresh décor. Lounge by the
infinity pool in the midst of the olive grove embracing the
exquisite views, or wander through the adjacent vineyards. With
just 11 rooms, this heavenly villa is ours to enjoy, and
Gabriella is attentive to all of our whims.
CasaBianca, Crete Senesi
The CasaBianca, an elegant 15thC villa hotel overlooking the
rolling farms of the Crete Senesi, is one of the highlights of
our time in Tuscany. Our gracious hosts, Alba & Luigi Scaperotta,
produce their own wine and olive oil, and give us a pizza-making
demo using the villa’s original wood-burning oven.
Grand Hotel Continental, Siena
Located in the heart of Siena, the 5-star Grand Hotel
Continental is a recently converted 17thC palazzo, originally
designed by the baroque architect Giovanni Fontana. Ponder the
history of this majestic, beautifully frescoed building as you
sip prosecco in the courtyard.
