TUSCANY WITH THE KIDS: AGES 12+
Trip Length: 6 days/5 nights
Start/Finish: Florence/Florence
There’s no place like Tuscany for accessing your teen’s inner
artist. Or chef. Or bocce champion. Moreover, keeping them happy
gives you time to enjoy gorgeous bike rides, historic towns,
succulent food and wine, and fabulous luxury hotels.
While you’re taking a historical walking tour of Siena with our
art historian friend Lucia, kids are having a ball making the
local dessert called cenci; as you taste vino ṇbile in the
cellars of the famed Avignonesi estate, teens are creating clay
masterpieces with local artisans. Naturally, there are plenty of
activities together – like when we roll up our sleeves to make
the local specialty, pici pasta with garlic and tomato sauce. Trip Highlights:
- Cycle through the glorious Val di Chiana, the largest
valley in the Apennines
- Stop for a cappuccino in the piazza of a medieval
village
- Catch a private falconry demonstration at the Medici
fortress
- Take a walking tour of Cortona with a local artist
- Indulge in homemade tiramisu at the home of our good
friends, the Lungarella family
- Pedal to Pienza via gently rolling hills and olive
groves

Relais Villa Petrischio, Farneta
A beautiful villa built in the 1800s, the Relais Villa
Petrischio is set in the midst of a cypress and pine tree
forest. It offers stunning views over the entire Val di Chiana
and expansive, private grounds which you may choose to
explore--when you’re not relaxing in the pool or your finely
decorated room.
CasaBianca, Crete Senesi
The CasaBianca, an elegant 15thC villa hotel overlooking the
rolling farms of the Crete Senesi, is one of the highlights of
our time in Tuscany. Our gracious hosts, Alba & Luigi Scaperotta,
produce their own wine and olive oil, and give us a pizza-making
demo using the villa’s original wood-burning oven.
Grand Hotel Continental, Siena
Located in the heart of Siena, the 5-star Grand Hotel
Continental is a recently converted 17thC palazzo, originally
designed by the baroque architect Giovanni Fontana. Ponder the
history of this majestic, beautifully frescoed building as you
sip prosecco in the courtyard.
