PRAGUE TO VIENNA WITH THE KIDS:
AGES 12+
Trip Length: 7 days/6 nights
Start/Finish: Prague/Vienna
Stepping behind the former Iron Curtain is akin to peeling back
the layers of history. As we cycle along the banks of sparkling
rivers, sun-dappled forests and through medieval fortress towns
you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped not into a former Communist
stronghold, but into the colourful pages of a fairy tale.
With thousand-year-old riverside towns, winding
wildflower-flanked bike paths, hotels – castles, actually –
dating back hundreds of years, falconry and medieval
sharpshooting in a 12thC dungeon, Bohemia is a vacation
playground for imaginative kids young and old. Trip
Highlights:
- Absorb all you can in a private, expat-guided tour of
the fortress town of Ceskı Krumlov
- Kids raft down the Vltava River while the adults enjoy
an afternoon on their own
- Adults dine at the legendary Landhaus Bacher restaurant
- Polka to the tunes of local gypsy musicians
- Try your hand at medieval sharpshooting with Count
Kottulinsky at the remarkable Schlosshotel Obermayerhofen

Accommodations:
Hotel Ruze, Ceskı Krumlov
The Hotel Ruze is the best hotel in Ceskı Krumlov.
Constructed as a 16thC Jesuit Monastery in the Renaissance
style, it is now a comfortable (though not luxury) hotel with a
beautiful view of the village, the river and surrounding hills.
Enjoy this vista from the restaurant terrace as you reward
yourself for today’s ride with a velke pivo (a large beer).
Hotel Richard Löwenherz, Dürnstein
Founded on the site of a 700-year-old Clarissinian Abbey, the
Richard Löwenherz is now a hotel with richly historical
interiors filled with antiques, Renaissance sculpture, elegant
chandeliers and stone vaulting. We are well looked after by Frau
Theiry and her staff, who quickly make us feel at home whether
we’re lounging in the living room with an after-dinner schnapps,
lazing in the rose garden by the pool, or enjoying a sunny
breakfast on the arbor-covered terrace overlooking the Danube.
Schlosshotel Obermayerhofen, Styria
We are the only travel company with access to the
Schlosshotel Obermayerhofen, an impressive castle-cum-hotel
owned by Count and Countess Kottulinsky. The castle has been in
the family for 300 years and offers elegant rooms with hillside
views of their private park and lake. It also offers B&R guides
absolute peace of mind knowing that all requests--big, small or
downright quirky--will be taken care of by our gracious and
interesting hosts.
