BERLIN TO DRESDEN BIKING ITINERARY
Trip Length: 7 days/6 nights
Start/Finish: Berlin/Dresden
Though the Wall has been down since 1989, life on the other
side of the Iron Curtain remains goosebump-inducing. We get a
sense of this changing society as our local guide, Jamie, leads
us through Berlin and historic Potsdam. We then work our way
south into the countryside, where we’ll wind through the Spree
Forest onboard a punt, sipping coffee as the towns awaken. We
close our tour in Dresden, Saxony’s royal capital, reborn to
glory as the “Florence of the north.”
Trip Highlights:
- Stay at Schlosshotel Cecilienhof, the building in which
Churchill, Truman and Stalin made history at the Potsdam
Conference
- Tour the gardens and palaces of Sanssouci in Potsdam,
the former residence of Frederick II
- Be welcomed as the personal guests of Count Rochus zu
Lynar at Lübbenau Castle
- Ride through vineyards and green pastures to Meissen for
a private look at the town’s renowned porcelain creation
- Stay at the Kempinski Taschenbergpalais, a meticulously
reconstructed 18thC royal palace worthy of its history

Accommodations:
Schlosshotel Cecilienhof, Potsdam
The Schlosshotel Cecilienhof is the finest hotel in Potsdam.
Although still bearing some characteristics of a Communist
country (don’t expect the full gamut of Western amenities) its
intimacy, history and tranquil park setting more than make up
for it. Built by Kaiser Wilhelm in 1916 in the style of an
English country manor, it is now a beautifully situated hotel
surrounded by a large park graced with lakes, green lawns and
forest. Its restaurant is among the best in the area.
Schlosshotel Lübbenau, Lübbenau
This 18thC castle in the heart of the Spreewald is owned by
Graf (Count) zu Lynar. The estate has been in his family for 300
years, and now offers simple, comfortable rooms, beautiful views
of a private park, and fine cuisine, along with unmatched access
to the idyllic Spreewald.
Hotel Kempinski Taschenbergpalais, Dresden
Nestled between the baroque landmarks of the opera house and
national museum, the Taschenbergpalais has a location that is
second-to-none. And beyond the imposing façade of this
meticulously reconstructed royal palace, built in 1706, lie
equally regal amenities: sitting rooms, courtyards, spa and
sauna, and a sublime fifth-floor swimming pool.
