SHANGHAI TO TIBET WALKING ITINERARY
Trip Length: 9 days/8 nights
Start/Finish: Shanghai/Chengdu
How does one pack for a spiritual adventure of a lifetime? Bring
an open mind, a curious soul and if there’s room left in the
suitcase, a good pair of walking shoes. We begin in the lush,
mountainous landscapes surrounding Kaili – an area almost
untouched by tourism. Our journey takes us past locals at work
along quiet dirt roads and on beautiful treks in remote and
spiritually significant areas (sometimes with the help of
four-wheel-drive vehicles), including the real Shangri-La. Our
experience isn’t complete before spending time in the city as
well, wandering among the myriad Tibetans who journey here on
pilgrimages, spinning prayer wheels under colourful rows of
flags. Now the question is: how does one ever go home? Trip

Accommodations:
Banyan Tree Lijiang
From the moment you open the gate to your private garden villa,
you will sense the magic of Lijiang and the beautifully designed
Banyan Tree. The warm rustic colours and Jade Dragon Snow
Mountain reflected in your personal outdoor jet pool make your
villa the perfect retreat after a glorious day of biking at the
foothills of the Himalayas.
Banyan Tree Ringha
Finally, after all the years we have been in China, the first
boutique luxury lodge has opened, operated by none other than
the Singapore-based Banyan Tree Resorts and Spas. The lodge
offers only 20 rooms, all designed in a traditional Tibetan
style of architecture. Our suites are two storeys high with an
upstairs living room and bedroom and a downstairs luggage area
and large bathroom with dual sinks, a central bathtub and
monsoon shower. The lodge employs a mix of local villagers and
Indonesian/Singaporean/Thai staff, and boasts a great spa with
many types of treatments.
Four Points Sheraton, Lhasa
This brand new property has only 72 rooms and is located close
to the Old Town. With modern amenities, it is a simple and
modest accommodation.
