HIGHLIGHTS OF CHINA ITINERARY:

DAY 1: USA or Canada/Beijing, China
Depart on an overnight flight to Beijing.

DAY 2: Beijing
You are met on arrival and escorted to your hotel. The Ritz Carlton Beijing

DAY 3: Beijing
Visit Tiananmen Square and pass through the Gate of Heavenly Peace into the Forbidden City. After lunch, visit the Summer Palace and cruise on Lake Kunming. This evening, join fellow travellers for a welcome dinner. The Ritz Carlton Beijing B L D

DAY 4: Beijing
Travel to the less-visited Mutianyu Section of the Great Wall. Spend the late afternoon browsing through the tiny shops of the bustling Hongqiao Market. The Ritz Carlton Beijing B L

DAY 5: Beijing/Xian
This morning's visit is to the Temple of Heaven, an exquisite example of Chinese craftsmanship. Later, fly to Xian. Shangri-La Hotel B L

DAY 6: Xian
Visit the site of the incredible terra cotta warriors of Emperor Qin Shihuanghi's tomb. After lunch, continue to the Shaanxi Provincial Museum before ending your day at the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. Shangri-La Hotel B L

DAY 7: Xian/Chongqing
Explore the Yangling Museum and the ancient gate of the city walls before flying to Chongqing for a city tour. Later, board your river cruiser to begin your Yangzi adventure. MS 'Yangzi Explorer'* B L D

DAYS 8-9: Yangzi River
Your days are spent cruising east on the mighty Yangzi, passing through the legendary Three Gorges: Qutang, Wu ("Witches") and wild Xiling Gorge. Visit the site of the Three Gorges Dam Project, currently the largest dam construction project on earth. MS 'Yangzi Explorer' B L D

DAY 10: Yichang/Shanghai
Disembark at Yichang and, time permitting, explore the city and People's Square. Later, fly to Shanghai. Portman Ritz-Carlton B L

DAY 11: Shanghai
Visit the Shanghai Urban Planning Museum and the twisting lanes of the old Chinese Quarter. This evening attend the famous Shanghai Acrobatic Show. Portman Ritz-Carlton B L

DAY 12: Shanghai/Zhujajiao/Shanghai
Visit Zhujajiao, a "water village" threaded with lakes, stone bridges and lush tea gardens. Tonight, bid farewell to your fellow travellers over cocktails and dinner. Portman Ritz-Carlton B D

DAY 13: Shanghai/USA or Canada
Transfer to the airport to board a homebound flight. B

This program contains some active elements and a minimum level of fitness is required.

[NOTE: The MS 'Yangzi Explorer' is scheduled to begin cruising the Yangzi River by April 2008. Should the vessel be delayed for any reason, this program will operate using the MS 'East King.']
