WALKING IN FRANCE ITINERARY:

DAYS 1-2: USA or Canada/Toulouse, France
Board an overnight flight to Toulouse, where you are met and transferred to your hotel. Meet your fellow travellers this evening for a welcome dinner. Grand Hotel de l'Opera D

DAY 3: Toulouse/Albi/Saint-Cirq-Lapopie
Drive to Albi and visit the medieval cathedral. After lunch, continue past the bastide of Cordes to Villefranche de la Rouergue before driving to Saint-Cirq- Lapopie, a village overlooking the River Lot. Dine tonight at L'Atelier in Saint-Cirq- Lapopie. Hôtel de la Pélissaria B L D

DAY 4: Saint-Cirq-Lapopie/Calvagnac/ Saint-Cirq-Lapopie
Walk to the 16th-century Château de Cénévières for a picnic with the owner. After lunch, look for kingfisher on your return walk along the river. Dine this evening at L'Oustal. (Walk: 11.5 miles with vehicle option) Hôtel de la Pélissaria B L D

DAY 5: Saint-Cirq-Lapopie/Sauliac/ Saint-Cirq-Lapopie
Drive to St. Sulpice for a walk along the cliffs and through the Célé Valley. Pause for a picnic lunch on the banks of the River Célé, then return to Saint-Cirq-Lapopie for a leisurely afternoon - or continue your walk toward Sauliac. Dine tonight at L'Atelier. (Walk: 4.5 miles plus an optional 4.5 miles) Hôtel de la Pélissaria B L D

DAY 6: Saint-Cirq-Lapopie/Bouziès/ Cahors/Mauroux
Amble along the tow path carved into the riverside cliffs to Bouziès. Then drive to ancient Cahors to explore the bustling market. After lunch at the Rendez-Vous, continue through the Quercy Blanc to the famous medieval bridge, Pont Valentré, en route to your hotel in Mauroux. (Walk: 3 miles) Le Vert/La Source Bleue B L D

DAY 7: Mauroux/Chateau Chambert/ Bonaguil/Mauroux
Drive to Château Chambert and then set off on foot for stunning views over valleys of Jurassic limestone. Pass through vineyards before stopping for a picnic lunch in an apple orchard. After lunch, walk to the 16th-century Bonaguil castle, nestled among the chestnut trees and ferns of the Bouriane region. Return to your hotel for tea and dinner. (Walk: 10 miles) Le Vert/La Source Bleue B L D

DAY 8: Mauroux/Quercy Blanc/Mauroux
Walk through the pastoral Quercy Blanc, where cirl buntings and wood larks are in full song. Stop at a family-run lavender distillery and meet the owner before continuing to Château Figeac for a wine tasting with a master of wine. Pause for a picnic lunch at the château before driving to a charming 14th-century frescoed Quercy church. Return to Le Vert for tea. (Walk: 7 miles) Le Vert /La Source Bleue B L D

DAY 9: Mauroux/Albas/Grezels/Mercuès
Drive to the village of St. Vincent Rives d'Olt on the banks of the river Lot. Begin a walk for glimpses of loping heron and other river birdlife before you move through the woods where wild boar roam. In the port of Albas, you are met and driven to Grezels for lunch at La Terrace. Continue to Château Lagrezette vineyard, producers of the first class red wine Le Pigeonnier. After a tour and tasting, drive to the hillside Château Mercuès for a farewell dinner in the Michelin-starred restaurant. (Walk: 10 miles) Château Mercuès B L D

DAY 10: Mercuès/Toulouse/USA or Canada
Depart for Toulouse to catch your homebound flight. B
