HIGHLIGHTS OF ROMANIA & BULGARIA ITINERARY:

DAYS 1-2: USA or Canada/Bucharest, Romania
Depart on an overnight flight to Bucharest. Transfer to your hotel and later join fellow travelers for a welcome dinner. JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel D

DAY 3: Bucharest
Visit the palace of former Communist leader Nicolae Ceausescu. After lunch in the city's oldest beer hall, stroll through the Old Town and stop at the famous Gallé glass blowing factory. Dinner is at leisure. JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel B L

DAY 4: Bucharest/Sibiu
Travel to Wallachia and Curtea de Arges, where the first Romanian kings are entombed. Lunch privately in the bishop's palace before visiting the elaborate 14th century Cozia Monastery. Dine ą la carte at your hotel this evening. Hotel Continental Forum B L D

DAY 5: Sibiu/Sibiel/Sibiu
Stroll through Sibiu to see Bruckenthal Palace. After lunch continue to Sibiel. Visit the church and glass icon museum before dinner and traditional entertainment in a private house. Hotel Continental Forum B L D

DAY 6: Sibiu/Biertan/Sighisoara/Brasov
Drive to Biertan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After a barbecue lunch continue to Sighisoara, for an organ concert in the Citadel church. Dinner is ą la carte at your hotel. Hotel Aro Palace B L D

DAY 7: Brasov/Bran/Brasov
In Brasov visit the first Romanian school. Continue to Bran ("Dracula's") Castle. End the day with dinner and a folklore show. Hotel Aro Palace B L D

DAY 8: Brasov/Sinaia/Bucharest/ Veliko Tārnovo
Stop at Peles Palace in Sinaia before sitting down to lunch in Bucharest. Cross the Danube for coffee and cakes in Ruse, then watch a private folk dancing performance during a barbecue dinner. Arbanassi Palace B L D

DAY 9: Veliko Tārnovo
Explore Arbanassi's 17th-century Church of the Nativity. Stop for refreshments at the 13th-century monastery of St. Nicholas before heading to Veliko Tārnovo for lunch and shopping. This evening, dine privately in the ancient monastery of St. Peter and Paul. Arbanassi Palace B L D

DAY 10: Veliko Tārnovo /Plovdiv
Visit Etara Folk Village, then travel to see the fourth-century BC burial mounds in the Valley of the Thracian Kings. Join the director of the Kazanlāk Thracian Tomb for lunch and a visit. Dine ą la carte at one of A&K's recommended restaurants in Plovdiv. Trimontium Princess Hotel B L D

DAY 11: Plovdiv/Bachkovo/Sofia
Lunch on local specialties at a 300-year old private farmhouse in Plovdiv. Drive to the painted monastery of Bachkovo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for a private visit of its 11th-century ossuary. DAY 12: Sofia
Visit Boyana Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with 13th-century frescoes. You may choose to explore the great Rila Monastery. Gather this evening for farewell drinks. Grand Hotel Sofia B L
