
'MAGNA CARTA': RIVER THAMES
ITINERARY:
SUNDAY
Meet at the Stafford Hotel in London for a traditional
English cream tea before transferring to 'Magna Carta,'
moored at Hampton Court. A champagne reception and Captain's
welcome is followed by dinner.
MONDAY
Visit Hampton Court Palace, built by Cardinal Wolsey in
the early 16th century. Wander in sixty acres of beautiful
riverside gardens and find your way out of its famous maze,
before a cruise to Shepperton.
TUESDAY
Cruise to Bell Weir Lock, adjacent to The Runnymede,
with time for a massage or facial at this luxurious spa
hotel. 'Magna Carta' then travels on, past the meadow at
Runnymede where King John was forced to sign its namesake
charter in 1215, and the nearby John F. Kennedy Memorial.
WEDNESDAY
Enjoy a morning cruise to Windsor where 'Magna Carta'
moors off a private island with a unique view of the Castle.
After lunch, visit the Castle, built by William the
Conqueror in the 11th century and inhabited by the Royal
Family ever since.
THURSDAY
Leaving Windsor Castle behind, cruise past magnificent
waterside homes through the spectacular Cliveden Reach and
into the open English countryside. Moor in Cookham, once
described as "heaven on earth" by artist Stanley Spencer,
one of England's greatest and most eccentric painters, whose
studio you visit this afternoon.
FRIDAY
Cruise this morning to the village of Hurley-on- Thames,
where there is time to wander Peter Freebody's boatyard to
watch traditional craftsmen at work. Return to 'Magna Carta'
for lunch on board, followed by a final cruise to
Henley-on-Thames. There is time to explore the town before a
farewell dinner tonight.
SATURDAY
After breakfast transfer to the Stafford Hotel in London
where your tour ends.
Note: This route is run in reverse on alternate
weeks.
