Wednesday, June 11: Port Moresby/Mount Hagen
A charter flight takes you over Papua New Guinea's Central Ranges, some of the most rugged and impressive landscapes in the world, deep in the Southern Highlands. From its remote setting 7,100 feet above sea level, the new Rondon Ridge resort offers magnificent views of the Wahgi Valley. Enjoy nature walks here in this stunning locale. Rondon Ridge B, L, D

Thursday, June 12: Mount Hagen
Explore this colorful area with your naturalist guide, the upper Wahgi Valley in which Mount Hagen sits - a region with some of the world's oldest evidence of agriculture and a remarkable array of bird and plant species. Visit a traditional village to meet and interact with the indigenous Melpa people and learn about their culture. Rondon Ridge B, L, D

Friday, June 13: Mount Hagen/Ambua
This morning a charter flight brings you to Ambua, soaring over the impressive Central Ranges. On arrival, you are escorted to your award winning eco-lodge high on the slopes of the Tari Valley. After soaking in the scenery during an afternoon nature walk, adjourn to your lodge for a dinner of local cuisine. Ambua Lodge B, L, D

Saturday, June 14: Ambua/Tari
Spend a full day of adventure in the Tari Basin, where the first outsiders to visit in the 1930s found a spectacularly diverse population of tribal peoples living as they had for millennia. Learn about Huli culture firsthand by visiting the villages of the Huli Wigmen, a colorful and proud people. Take an opportunity to witness traditional ceremonies, such as the festive "sing sing" and a sun dance. Ambua Lodge B, L, D

Sunday, June 15: Tari/Port Moresby/Hoskins/Kimbe Bay
A morning transfer to the airport at Tari begins your journey to West New Britain, as you fly to Port Moresby and on to Hoskins, passing over a spectacular panorama of mountain ranges. The rugged land below you isolated its people in some 700 small enclaves, each with its own distinct language and culture. Many of the deeper valleys remained unvisited by the outside world until early in the 20th century.

On arrival in Hoskins, you are met and transferred to your resort hotel on Kimbe Bay, world-renowned for its coral reefs. The resort's guest book reads like a Who's Who in the world of sport diving and underwater photography. Check in, relax and bask in the vivid tropical sunshine and mild ocean breezes of New Britain's northern coast. Walindi Plantation Resort B, D

Monday, June 16: Kimbe Bay/Talasea/Kimbe Bay
Drive to the nearby Talasea village this morning for a leisurely walk through a tropical forest to a volcanically-heated river spa of bubbling mud pools, sulphur springs and a panula "hot river." After lunch you can spend the afternoon as you wish: scuba diving among the brilliant sea life of the coral reefs (home to more fish species than the Hawaiian Islands and the entire Caribbean combined), sunbathing on the beach or joining a guided tour to a WWII Japanese airstrip where wrecks of Allied aircraft, including a Betty Bomber, are being reclaimed by the surrounding jungle. Walindi Plantation Resort B, L, D

Tuesday, June 17: Walindi Resort
Spend a full day of leisure enjoying independent activities here at this spectacular resort. Join your fellow travellers to share an adventure (or a game of golf or tennis), enjoy an excursion on your own or relax on the sun deck, as you prefer. Walindi Plantation Resort B, L, D

Transfer to Hoskins to board your flight to Port Moresby, where you are met and transferred to your hotel. Airways Hotel B, L, D

Thursday, June 19: Port Moresby/USA or Canada
Board a homebound flight, arriving in the USA or Canada on the same day you departed, thanks to the International Dateline. B

Papua New Guinea's raw essence draws intrepid travelers the world over; its remarkably pristine environment and distinct local communities inhabit a world unlike any other. Explore this unique place with the Conservancy's Paul Lokani, a Pacific Islands expert on coastal fisheries, who directs the Conservancy's work in the area with the passion and knowledge of a native. On this journey you will visit local villages and learn about the indigenous people's traditions, explore high-mountain jungles full of roaring waterfalls and towering trees and snorkel or scuba dive in one of the world's premier coral reef systems.

Though only slightly larger than California, Papua New Guinea contains five percent of the world's total biological diversity, and many of the species are found nowhere else on Earth. Papua New Guinea shelters an amazing 760 species of birds, including 38 of the 43 bird of paradise species and provides habitat for tree kangaroos, giant bandicoots, alpine wallabies and monkey-faced flying foxes. The country's marine life is even more amazing: with more than 860 species of coral reef fish, it exceeds the diversity of the Hawaiian Islands and the entire Caribbean combined. The Nature Conservancy has been working in Papua New Guinea since the 1990's by partnering with local communities to ensure the long-term preservation of the country's extraordinary diversity of life. The Conservancy has helped to pioneer a new conservation agreement that helps landowners to legally protect their land and natural resources for future generations and has also helped to develop educational programs that allow local students to understand the impact of human activities on the environment.
