ANCIENT CULTURES OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA ITINERARY:

DAY 1: USA or Canada/Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea
Depart on an overnight flight.

DAY 2: International Dateline
Cross the International Dateline "losing" a day, to be regained on your return flight.

DAY 3: Port Moresby/Madang
Arrive in Port Moresby, and connect to your onward flight to the coastal city of Madang, where you are met and transferred to your hotel. Malolo Plantation Lodge D

DAYS 4-5: Madang
Two days at leisure to relax or choose from some of the many activities offered by the resort.  Malolo Plantation Lodge B L D

DAY 6: Madang/Port Moresby
This morning experience a traditional "sing sing," then fly to Papua New Guinea's capital for an afternoon touring the city and visit to the National Museum. Airways Hotel B

DAY 7: Port Moresby/Ambua
A morning flight over some of the most rugged and impressive landscapes in the world brings you to the Highlands area. The afternoon is spent exploring the high mountain forests and roaring waterfalls in the area surrounding your lodge. Ambua Lodge B L D

DAY 8: Ambua/Tari Valley/Ambua
Spend your day on a guided tour exploring the villages of the Southern Highlands. Visit the Huli Wigmen - proud warriors famous for their uniquely shaped wigs. Ambua Lodge B L D

DAY 9: Ambua
Explore the Tari Gap area, home to an incredible 13 species of birds of paradise. After lunch, take a nature walk through prolific plant and bird life. Ambua Lodge B L D

DAY 10: Ambua/Sepik River
A morning charter flight brings contrasting landscapes of the Sepik River Basin, which is a flood plain surrounded by lush tropical jungle. Upon arrival, board 'Sepik Spirit,' an air conditioned 18-passenger "floating lodge." MV 'Sepik Spirit' B L D

DAYS 11-12: Cruising the Middle Sepik River
Cruise along river banks, walk through villages and meet locals, some among the most creative and prolific artists in Papua New Guinea. Your experienced guide identifies local flora and fauna and village customs. MV 'Sepik Spirit' B L D

DAY 13: Sepik River/Karawari
Travel by jet boat along the Karawari River arriving at your lodge. After settling into your new surroundings, visit a local village and learn about "Sago" - a major staple food. Watch the sunset over the Karawari valley before dinner at the lodge. Karawari Lodge B L D

DAY 14: Karawari/Mt. Hagen
Rise early this morning for bird spotting along the river banks. Return to your lodge for breakfast before flying to the capital of the Highlands area. Your lodge is beautifully situated for magnificent views of the Wahgi Valley. Your afternoon is at leisure to explore the natural orchid garden on the grounds or perhaps take a nature walk before a special dinner. Rondon Ridge Lodge B L D

DAY 15: Mt. Hagen/Port Moresby
Mt. Hagen is home to the Melpa people, a strong culture living traditional subsistence lifestyles in the face of modernity. Visit their village for some incredible insight to their life before an afternoon flight to Port Moresby. Airways Hotel B L D

DAY 16: Port Moresby/USA or Canada
Transfer to the airport for your departing flight. B
