DAYS 4-5: Samburu Game Reserve
Spend two days exploring the semi-arid Samburu. On morning
and afternoon game drives, search for the famous "Special Five"
(reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, beisa oryx, Somali ostrich
and the graceful, longnecked gerenuk) found only north of the
equator. You may even spot the elusive leopard, stalking the
banks of the Uaso Nyiro River. The landscape here is rocky and
hilly, with lush vegetation covered with tiny white wildflowers.
Explore this beautiful area from the comfort of your private
safari vehicle. Your knowledgeable guide identifies the Samburu
wildlife and provides you with in-depth information on the
animals' habits and characteristics.

DAY 6: Samburu/Masai Mara Game Reserve
After breakfast, board a flight to the Masai Mara, the
Kenyan portion of the great Serengeti ecosystem, catching first
sight of the herds as you circle to land. Here, your luxury camp
is idyllically nestled in the heart of Kenya's big game country
with a style reminiscent of the romantic safari era at the turn
of the 19th century. In the Mara you find the greatest
concentration of wildlife in Kenya, with the Mara's lion
population (the largest in the country) standing at the apex.
The delicate ecosystem of the Mara is the focus of world
attention in a major conservation effort to preserve one of
Africa's last true strongholds of game.
Olonana is at the forefront of eco-tourism in Kenya. Just
fourteen spacious tents with their own private riverside
verandahs make it the perfect size for an intimate, personal
experience. Your stay here can be as active or leisurely as you
please, and you may choose from many activities including game
drives, bush walks and Maasai village visits, along with visits
to tree planting and biogas community projects or the wetlands
projects in the camp. ** Olonana B L D
DAYS 7-8: Masai Mara Game Reserve
You spend two exciting days driving across the limitless
plains in search of abundant game in one of Kenya's most
spectacular areas. Here, the flat landscape does not allow prey
an opportunity to hide from predators as in other game reserves.
The colors here are shades of a never-ending green grassland and
blue sky with a wide open land dotted by the occasional desert
date tree. On game drives in the heart of this classic grassland
savannah, view migrating herbivores and their predators. Your
professional safari driver makes it his mission to get you as
close as possible to the action. Constant communication with
fellow drivers ensures the best sightings. Watch a lioness
return to her cubs at day's end.
Take in the fiery colors of an African sunset. Feel a sense of
calm as the Mara washes away all thoughts of the outside world.
Beyond your safari drives, other exciting activities include a
visit to a Maasai village where you meet the Maasai tribe, a
colorful pastoral people that have made the Masai Mara their
home for centuries. Or see a bird's-eye view of the plains on a
hot air balloon excursion. You may also take a short flight to
Lake Victoria, where picturesque fishing villages have remained
unchanged for centuries. On your final evening here, dine on the
banks of the Mara River.

DAY 9: Masai Mara/Nairobi/Arusha, Tanzania/
Today, you bid farewell to your camp staff and fly to Nairobi
where you connect and continue on to Arusha, and then on to Lake
Manyara airstrip. Here you drive to one of the natural wonders
of the world, the ancient volcanic caldera known as the
Ngorongoro Crater. Travel up the scenic flanks of the Ngorongoro
highlands and enjoy magnificent views before reaching your
Ngorongoro Crater Mobile Tented Camp, your home for the next two
nights. Perched on the rim of the Crater the views across this
2,000 foot deep natural amphitheater are spectacular. Your camp
staff is waiting to welcome you. After settling in, relax by a
roaring campfire while listening to the night sounds of the
African bush all around you. Exclusive A&K Mobile Tented

DAY 10: Ngorongoro Crater
Explore the crater's prolific wildlife, pausing for a private
gourmet barbecue hosted within a yellow acacia grove. The crater
supports as many as 25,000 large mammals, including zebra,
wildebeest (which account for almost half the animals), gazelle,
buffalo, eland, hartebeest and warthog, as well as a dense
population of large predators such as lion and hyena. This
evening you are in for a special treat as you experience an
amazing dance performance by a local Maasai tribe.

DAY 11: Ngorongoro Crater/Serengeti National Park
Today, fly to Serengeti National Park, home to many species
including zebra, gazelle, lion, leopard, hyena, giraffe,
elephant and buffalo. During the annual migration, vast numbers
of wildebeest move across the plains. Twice a year, triggered by
the rains, 1.3 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebra and 300,000
Thomson's gazelle migrate to new grazing lands on a route that
roughly mirrors the boundaries of Serengeti National Park,
extending to Kenya's Masai Mara National Reserve. You may
encounter these massive herds, sometimes called the "eighth
wonder of the world," on their dramatic annual journey. Kusini

DAYS 12-13: Serengeti National Park
Spend two days of morning and afternoon game viewing in this
expansive region, a protected animal refuge since 1929. The
Serengeti is one of the most spectacular game parks in East
Africa. This complex ecosystem is home to some 35 species of
plains game and 500 bird species, and is a land of stunning
variation in both wildlife and topography. Its short- and
long-grass plains in the south give way to acacia savannah in
the central area, leading to the hilly, more densely wooded
areas of the north, with an extensive corridor of woodland in
the west. After an exciting day on safari, return to your
luxurious camp and enjoy sundowner cocktails on a kopje (rocky
outcropping) overlooking the Serengeti plains, and join fellow
travellers for a farewell dinner. Kusini Camp B L D
DAY 14: Serengeti/Arusha/USA or Canada
Fly to Arusha, where a dayroom is supplied for your convenience
before you board your international flight. Arusha Coffee
Lodge (dayroom) B L
