KENYA HEMINGWAY SAFARI ITINERARY:

DAYS 1-2: USA or Canada/Nairobi, Kenya
Depart by overnight flight to Nairobi and your historic hotel. Norfolk Hotel

DAY 3: Nairobi/Laikipia Plateau
Today you board a flight to Nanyuki then drive to the exclusive Laikipia Plateau and a private game conservancy at the foot of Mount Kenya. Located in the Northern Frontier District, Laikipia Plateau is home to a diverse array of wildlife in some of Kenya's most spectacular scenery. The snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya dominate the view to the south. To the north, the terrain drops away rapidly with breathtaking views of the Samburu Game Reserve.

After your first safari game drive, return to camp for a delicious welcome dinner. Spend your first night under the stars, safe and warm in superbly appointed tents, serenaded by the sounds of the African night.

Considered Africa at its best, your mobile camp embodies a grand safari tradition, evoking the romance of a bygone era. Your campsites are set in the most spectacular areas for game viewing, where you and your group are the only guests around.

Set out in safari vehicles or, for a completely unique perspective, explore the area on horseback. All of the great cats and both black and white rhino are found here, as well as elephant, reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, oryx and dik-dik.M

As you explore, your guide shares his extensive knowledge of the bush and its myriad inhabitants. In between game drives, enjoy gourmet meals, picnics and sundowners served by your attentive camp staff.  Exclusive A&K Mobile Tented Camp B L D

DAY 5: Laikipia Plateau/Nanyuki

This morning, drive up the lower slopes of Mount Kenya and visit Nanyuki Spinners & Weavers. This women's self-help project was started to train poor, widowed and single women living in the surrounding villages of Nanyuki to become self-sufficient through the craft of spinning, knitting and weaving. Nanyuki town was targeted because it is one of the major wool producing areas in Kenya with its weather being favorable for sheep rearing and raising.

Later, drive to the world famous Mount Kenya Safari Club, arriving in time for lunch with the rest of the afternoon at leisure for optional activities. Mount Kenya Safari Club is steeped in colonial history, with a past as colorful as its magnificent gardens.

DAY 6: Nanyuki

Spend your day relaxing by the pool or take advantage of one of the many optional activities available to you. For a wildlife experience on a smaller scale, visit the animal orphanage adjacent to the club. Enjoy an Out of Africa bush dinner by the Likii River with a display by traditional Chukka drummers (weather permitting).Mount Kenya Safari Club B L D

DAY 7: Nanyuki /Masai Mara Game

Today you fly across Kenya's unparalleled terrain to the Masai Mara, one of the great natural wonders of the world. The jewel in Africa's crown, the Mara is host to the most spectacular array of wildlife.

Following lunch, enjoy your first game drive in the land of the Maasai. Game viewing is never dull in the Mara, and patience is often rewarded with unique sightings such as a pride of lion stalking their prey, a solitary leopard retrieving its kill from the high branches of an acacia tree, a male wildebeest sparring to attract females into its harem, or even a herd of elephant protecting their young from opportunistic predators. As well as wildlife, the Masai Mara is also home to many members of the colorful Maasai tribe who may be seen around the borders of the park - morans (warriors) loping across the plains, young boys herding goats or elders grouped under a tree discussing matters of the day.  Exclusive A&K Mobile Tented Camp B L D

DAYS 8-9: Masai Mara Game Reserve

Spend two exciting days driving across the limitless plains on morning and afternoon game drives, searching for the Masai Mara's abundant game. Running along the Tanzanian border, the Mara forms an essential part of the Serengeti ecosystem. Here lies the destination of the annual wildebeest migration, where more than one million wildebeest, accompanied by zebra and gazelle, stampede north to graze the Mara's lush grasses.

In the Mara River, crocodile bask in the sun and hippo wallow in the muddy water as monkeys frolic overhead. It seems as though the wildlife here is without limits. Elephant roam the forest edge, giraffe survey the plains. And you drive through it all in vehicles that can take you up close in comfort and safety.

Gather tonight with your fellow travellers for a special farewell dinner.

DAY 10: Masai Mara/Nairobi/USA or Canada

You bid "kwaheri" (farewell) to your camp staff and fly back to Nairobi. A special lunch will take place at Bahati House (the Kent family home) which was previously part of Karen Blixen's coffee estate and is located in an attractive residential area west of Nairobi.

Following lunch, you have the option of paying a visit to the Karen Blixen house, made famous by the film Out of Africa. The house contains some of Karen's own possessions as well as some props, which were presented to the house after the filming of the movie. Outside, stroll through a lovely garden with fabulous views of the Ngong Hills, and see the original millstone tables from which Karen conducted so much of her farm business.

If you don't wish to participate in this optional sightseeing, you will be transferred back to the Norfolk Hotel where the balance of the day is at leisure to relax in preparation for your journey home, or perhaps partake of some last-minute shopping.
