HIGHLIGHTS OF EGYPT & KENYA ITINERARY:

DAYS 1-2: USA or Canada/Cairo, Egypt
Fly overnight to Cairo, where you are met and assisted through customs and immigration formalities before transferring to your hotel on the Nile.

DAY 3: Cairo
Visit the Pyramids built for Pharaohs Cheops, Chephren and Mycerinus on the Giza Plateau. Cheops' pyramid is the only survivor of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. This evening gather for a welcome dinner at your hotel.

DAY 4: Cairo/Abu Simbel/Aswan

Visit the two temples in Abu Simbel built by Egypt's longest ruling pharaoh, Ramses II, before continuing to Aswan, where you board 'Sun Boat IV.' After lunch, take a short boat ride to the exquisite Temple of Philae on the island of Agilika. Proceed to the granite quarries, which supplied the ancient Egyptians with most of the hard stone used in the temples.  MS 'Sun Boat IV' B L D

DAY 5: Aswan/Kom Ombo/Edfu/Esna

Cruise to Kom Ombo and explore its third-century BC temple that stands at a bend in the Nile. In ancient times, sacred crocodiles basked in the sun on the riverbank. There is time to rest and enjoy the lovely scenery as your cruiser takes you to Edfu, where you visit the Temple of Horus, the falcon-god. Begun in 230 BC by Ptolemy III, this extraordinary structure is the best-preserved temple in Egypt.  MS 'Sun Boat IV' B L D

DAY 6: Esna/Luxor

This morning, cross the Nile to explore its West Bank. Tour the lovely terraced funerary temple of Queen Hatshepsut, Egypt's first female pharaoh. Then explore the Valley of the Kings where 62 tombs have been discovered to date. After lunch on board your cruiser, visit the temple of Amun at Karnak. Continue on to the spectacular Temple of Luxor.  MS 'Sun Boat IV' B L D

DAY 7: Luxor/Cairo
Fly to Cairo and visit the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, housing the world's greatest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts, including the treasures of Tutankhamun and the Mummy Room.  Cairo Marriott Hotel B L

DAY 8: Cairo/Nairobi, Kenya
This morning, embark on a tour of Islamic Cairo with a traditional lunch at Khan El Khalili Bazaar. Later this evening board your overnight flight to Nairobi.

DAY 9: Nairobi
Arrive in Nairobi where your Abercrombie & Kent representative meets and transfers you to your hotel. This afternoon, begin your extraordinary safari with a visit to Giraffe Center, the Karen Blixen house and museum (made famous by the film Out of Africa), and Kazuri Crafts, a jewelry workshop.  Nairobi Serena Hotel B

DAYS 10-11: Nairobi/Samburu
Fly to the semi-desert bush country of the Northern Frontier District and take your first game drive in Samburu. The contrast of colors among sky, bush and sand makes for a photographer's paradise. Birding enthusiasts will be well rewarded, with over 400 species, including the martial eagle, Somali ostrich and vulturine guinea fowl. Look for unique northern species including Grevy's zebra and the gerenuk. You also have the opportunity to learn firsthand about the local Samburu culture with a visit to a Samburu village.  Samburu Lodge B L D

DAY 12: Samburu/Masai Mara Game Reserve
A scenic flight brings you to the Masai Mara Game Reserve and to your camp, arriving in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive. The Mara is host to the most spectacular array of wildlife, which are constantly changing as the plains game follows ancient migration routes. Lion are found in abundance throughout the park as are elephant, giraffe, a variety of gazelle species and zebra. Cheetah and leopard are also regularly seen, and you may even glimpse rhino.

After a late-afternoon game drive, return to camp for dinner.

DAY 13: Masai Mara Game Reserve
Today should prove to be an exciting one, spent driving across the vast plains in search of the Mara's abundant wildlife. Embark on morning and afternoon game drives where you're rewarded with the drama of a hunt, the antics of baby elephant, or the grace of a giraffe. Visit a Maasai village for an incredible look at this fascinating culture. This evening, join your fellow travellers for a memorable "Farewell to Africa" dinner: a perfect opportunity to toast your journey, swap stories and share experiences.  Kichwa Tembo Camp B L D

DAY 14: Masai Mara Game Reserve/Nairobi/USA or Canada
Fly to Nairobi today where a dayroom has been reserved for your use before tonight's flight. The afternoon is at leisure.
